It was March i think. Very early and still retty frigid, but that when the river runs roughest from the ice melting. They classify rapids on a scale of 1-5. 5 being the most severe. At this time the Cheat had some Class 4 sets going. Only ones on the east coast. You had to wear full wetsuits, helmets, and reinforced "boots".

All of the sets of Rapids are named. I got tossed out in a cclass four set Called "Big Nasty"- it basically looked ike a black whole in the river. Its sucked the raftdown and launched the 6 rafter into the air. I went up about 15 feet and then fell into the middle of the whole.

I can only describe the feeling as helpless. I was whipped down the river and the current was so strong i couldnt get my head above water i was probably going about 30miles an hour under water. The irony is it was only about 3 feet deep.

i was flat on my back taking a ton of abuse from the river bottom. i realized that i was gonna lose it. i jammed my arms down into the river bottom to force myself straight up and because of the immense force of the water- broke both my forearms instantly. i got my head up for a second took on breath and got a mouthfull of water. i could see that there were guys in Kyaks trying to rope me in - but the couldnt get to me. Back under i went...my arms were usless at this point -but i wasnt aware of any pain. i stopped caring.

i went numb completely and everything went white and the sound of the river went away...very peaceful.

i was awoken across the bow of a canoe with some giving me mouth mouth. They said i was dead for about a minute.

Never told that story before. The Very Reverend Ace Clemmons, Jr.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00834241919536738682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1147191291370104712006-05-09T09:14:00.000-07:002006-05-09T09:14:00.000-07:00COME BACK TAM!COME BACK TAM!mrs.tjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13089782922404457288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1147148954771634242006-05-08T21:29:00.000-07:002006-05-08T21:29:00.000-07:00"I have but recently returned from the valley of t..."I have but recently returned from the valley of the shadow of death....

.... Well I wasn't even a year old when I was in my mothers arms and (at least this is the story that has been told to me this was like in '81) a lincoln cut my uncle off we were in a VW my dad was in the front passenger seat and my mom and I in the back. Well we flipped several times and my mom ended up landing on me. My mom broke her leg from her hip to her lil toe and I had a broken colar bone. My uncle was all jacked up broken arm, nose and leg. My dad only had minor cuts and bruises. The sewer hole top slid and I fell in. I grabbed the edge with one hand. The water came up just below my knees. I was scared to death. One of my uncles came over to visit and as he was leaving (I could see him standing out front with my mother), my mom yells for me to come back across the street to say goodbye. So I'm thinkin - OK, lemme run across the street...well I never actually LOOKED before I leapt and a car was barreling down the street just as I ran across. He missed me by two hairs...As I watched the horror on my mother's face turn into RAGE, I said my goodbyes QUICKLY and my mother proceeded to drag me back intothe house and BEAT THE DAWG SHIT outta me (I think I woulda been happier gettin hit by a car - that only woulda happened ONCE).

When I was 14 my mother decided she wanted to live ADVENTUROUSLY. Every event then became a "PJ Production" and we were in "PJ's GROUP" ((rollin my eyes JUST THINKIN about it)) Well we get a large group of people together (friends and family) and head to the Kern River for some White Water River Rafting. Now, if I had only gone down ONE run, I' be here saying OMG - YOU HAVE TO DO THAT SHIT AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE!!! But no...I'm not even gonna go there. The first run was exciting - I was with my folks, one of my uncles, a cousin, a family friend and the guide. By the time we made it back to base for the next group of people to go, several people chickened out because we were all wet and lookin crazy. They got scared, so they said we could go again! Someone beat me to my seat on our original raft, so I had to ride with a group of people that hadn't been down the river yet. They instruct you to keep the oars IN THE WATER should you hit a rapid...ummm yeah...well it started off cool until we hit the second rapid...everyone started to panic and they lifted their oars. Our raft folded and I got washed out. I was head first, on my back, in icy water, having gone through 3 of the MAJOR rapids in that run...for 5 miles. I never knew it was so hard to just DROWN. I can swim, but simming in that water is impossible. As soon as I could come up for air, I yelled," Moooooommmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyy" just before going under again. My parents were in the last raft and could see my head, but when my mother leaned until she couldn't see me anymore - SHE fell out. So my dad was freaked because now BOTH of us are in the water. It felt like it took them forever to get me out. As a result of that trip, my mother has had her left knee replaced TWICE and I no longer get into bodies of water larger than my bathtub. My parents have a pool...I can count on ONE hand how many times I've been in it in the last 16 years. That Girl Tamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14839813374699564933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1146851201624512452006-05-05T10:46:00.000-07:002006-05-05T10:46:00.000-07:00doing the speed limit 90...(corrections)...reading...doing the speed limit 90...(corrections)...reading everybodies stories..i'm like wow....The Sarccastik Variable Whyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17450002235275422971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1146850857449582042006-05-05T10:40:00.000-07:002006-05-05T10:40:00.000-07:00i had one...damn fool...air force andre was doing ...i had one...
damn fool...air force andre was doing '90 me, my boy marky mark and t-dot in the city limits...18 wheeler truck pulled out @the last minute, he braked and we were like "Oh Shit, dude"...last minute we switched back into the next lane (because we had to wait for the back of the 18 wheeler truck to clear the lane)...after that..we all said in unison, "i ain't fukkin' w/u no more dre about driving"...The Sarccastik Variable Whyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17450002235275422971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1146846569239079652006-05-05T09:29:00.000-07:002006-05-05T09:29:00.000-07:00I was standing at a bus stop on my way home from m...I was standing at a bus stop on my way home from my boyfriends house. It was an after school spot for latch-key kids such as myself. Anyway, the staff took us on a field trip to the YMCA so we could go swimming. I didn't know how to swim but I still went on the trip. From out of nowhere this girl comes up behind me and throws me in the deep end of the pool. I remember sinking to the bottom and knowing that I was about to die. The lifeguard jumped in and pulled me out and I sat in the corner for the rest of the trip coughing and crying. Needless to say, to this day I am still terrified of the water.

One other time was when I was in my early 20s. I worked part-time in the evenings at this little seedy motel in my town. I was trying to save up for a car. So I worked my full time gig M-F, 7:00-3:30. Then I went to the motel Tue-Fri, 4:00-midnight. Anyway, all I had to do at the motel was check people in, wash/dry and fold the linens. It was an easy job but some of the characters that checked into this place left little to be desired. My mother hated that I worked there, but since she wouldn't help me get the car I ignored her warnings. Finally, after 8 months I had the downpayment for my car and I quit. One week later I read in the paper that the new front desk chick (who shared my first name) was pistol whipped by someone who was trying to check in.chelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15468273174800571759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18665151.post-1146840486313994712006-05-05T07:48:00.000-07:002006-05-05T07:48:00.000-07:00@ TCas: I forgot to mention that I would have so ...@ TCas: I forgot to mention that I would have so passed out at that moment, he would NOT have had the chance to tell me "my bad, I thought you were someone else" I would have been DONE.

@ KB: MAN!
