Aaliyah Dana Haughton January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001
It took me MONTHS to watch this one in it's entirety: Still evokes a degree of sadness.
This one, I like because she is a straight RYDA in this one!!
The Song that Made Me Love Her. . .
And this song that sounds DAYUM good in a car with some sounds!!

I love, Love, Love Aaliyah! It seems so unreal when they said she was gone. I guess becasue we were the same age when she passed. Life is short and you really never know...
Back and Forth and Are You That Somebody.
It's still so hard to believe that she is gone.
I love practically all of her songs. It still seems surreal to watch the Rock the Boat video, knowing that after the making of it she died.
My daughters LOVE Aaliyah too. My oldest daughter always says that she can never forget the day she died because it's the day after her b-day.
i love pratically every song she did. it took me a minute to listen to her again. it just so sad that she is no longer here. and its funny looking at this chickenheads nowadays trying to bite her style... they need to quit. there is only one Aaliyah and they will never be on her level.
@ Cool AC.
Yeah, I remember telling my niece, who was at my apartment at the time. I couldn't even tell her; I just told her to turn to the news channel.
@ Chele: I love Back and Forth as well. It's hard to really choose. And not only is it hard to believe that she is gone, it's hard to believe that it's been five years.
@ Laa: I equally love and hate that video. And the way it begins and ends is haunting. . .
@ Koolbreeze: Nothing more to say to you. You pretty much hit the nail on the head, especially with these new booties on board.
I think what I liked about her is that she readily admitted that she is NOT a songwriter. That she just likes to sing. And a pure singer she was. She never claimed to be the most powerful or strongest voice, she just did what she did. She also was fortunate to possess that dual ability to dance AND sing, which is a rarity with pure singers.
She has been gone that long, damn, time continues marching forward even after we cease to...
I don't think Aaliyah had a video for my favorite song. "Young Nation" She seemed like such a sweet and gentle spirit. If I ever have a daughter, I want to name her after AAliyah.
Man what a cool tribute to her. I saw Aaliyah at the Essence Music festival many years ago when she first came out. You know she was sporting the big jeans, big vest, combat boots, bandana and her signature shades. She hardly ever took those shades off in the beginning. Well it was her and a bunch of other folks running around on stage and let's just say she hadn't quite developed her craft yet cause girlie was lousy. It could have been the Superdomes acoustics too though.
Later as she matured her rhythm and style were awesome. I think Aaliyah is the sole reason why I can spot a Timbaland joint in a minute *Shouldn't have left you without a dope beat to step to* Try Again is most def. my favorite of her hits.
It's so tragic the way she died but here we are five years later and her music is still the bomb and keeping her sweet spirit alive.
Thanks P!
Let Me Know, One In a Million, and Back and Forth were 2 of my favorites. Time flies. Hard to believe so much has happened in a matter of 5 yrs.
My favorite will always be Rock the Boat - awesome song.
It was so nice to finally meet you this weekend!! You are definitely MUCH nicer than Tam lead on! :)
Just kidding!! ;)
My favs would be 1 in a million and at your best
(you are loved).
She is truly missed...
A lot of tracks from her final album were hot fyah.
I still love "Extra Smooth" like nobody's business.
