Mama's Baby, Daddy's Maybe

In a recent CNN article, a man in Florida is being chased like a runaway slave in order to pay 305.00 monthly for child support.

Appropo, if in fact he were the child's father. DNA test results, as well as an affidavit from the child's mother requesting that the child support be ceased, means nary a dayum for the people in the State of Florida, home of fresh squeezed OJ (Simpson and the beverage), Jeb Bush, the 'Lectric Chair, and Disneyworld, who insist on carrying out the order of over $10,000 in back child pay.

My friend, who works for Child Support Services in Southern California, indicate that the State (of California, and other states), receive money, dollar for dollar, for ever 'successful' support case where funds are collected (male or female cases). Personally, one of my BFF's has actually been on the Sally Jesse Rafael show, (2001) where, he was in fact, officially christened with the term "You are NOT the father".

Father's rights groups are vigorously advocating for mandatory DNA tests for all children, in or out of wedlock. It has been suggested that this would be a preventative measure financially, particularly for the male species to money that will not doubt be difficult, if not impossible, to recoup. They also believe, that this will prevent many men from going underground with bootleg under the table jobs or having a spotty employment history, in an effort to prevent being chased down from Wanda the Wage Garnisher. It is also effective measures if in fact they do find out WHO the father is, and subsequently, have an opportunity to learn about the family history if they choose, both personally and for health related reasons. And, peace of mind.

Other groups (ACLU in particular) believe that this is a basic violation of civil liberties, and that it violates the basic tenents of the fourth amendment when it comes to unreasonable search and seizure. There is one thing, they believe, to get a court order when it comes down to paternity issues, or to voluntarily pay for one, but when getting involved into a mandatory issue that intrudes upon your person, then certain invisible bonds have become broken, and we have entered Big Brother/Minority report territory.

Then there are those who love their children, and vice versa and would be crushed and devastated if the child they have nurtured and cared for over the years, is, in fact, the result of lil Ray-Ray's mama getting broke off after one too many pink panties with her best friend's cousin.

It happens more often than we care to acknowledge (and admit). I wouldn't be surprised if most families of current have members in their family where dark skin and green eyes are attributed to grandfather's uncle on the mother's side.

Mandatory DNA Tests for EVERY child? Yes, No, or on the fence?

Ok, now that we got all that outta the way...seeing how my husband was manipulated into thinking that neither of our children were HIS...and he only shut the fuck up after he had a secret DNA test done...I'm all for it...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not FOR it because of my situation, but I'm also an advocate for Father's Rights because in many cases, good fathers are overlooked, thrown in "the system" because Ty'quanisha was a triflin heffa and didn't wanna come out and just ask the man for monetary assistance - which he would've FREELY GIVEN had he known from the gate that the kid was his in the first place.

And also for shit like, "18 years! 18 years! And on the 18th birthday found out it wasn't HIS!"

Men and women alike should be protected in cases of fraud and such...I'm sure this would be a costly process and end up with tax payers footin the bill...I don't think this would ever pass as a law...but it's definitely an idea.

Very Interesting comments, Tammy-Tam.

But Why you had to put a apostrophe in Ty-quanisha's name, though? :P

And you're right. It may be costly, but who is going to pay the cost in the long term (and I'm not just talking about financially).

Hey, how did you find out about XL's test. . He told you about it after the fact? (um, besides the fact that the kids look like him, but whatever).

Tam,
I allowed you to be first..I was starting to feel guilty..lol...

P,

This one hits close to home B/C my biological sperm donor refused and went as far as to go incognito and hide out when the results came out that I was indeed his son some 2X yrs ago... (my reunions comming up so my age should be a slam dunk)

That SOB in the end stayed hidden...I cant lie, ive seen it on both sides, and there are good brothas out there being nailed to the ground b/c they played the role as daddy even though they biologically werent..The judge told a BFF of mine "youre all the kid's ever known" ..My man was told that b/c of this, he was then that childs FATHER...and when him and wifey called it after 6 yrs, he was still payin...
I would want the state to pay for the testing, and upon when the results are posted, if its dad's make him pay, but if not, let him decide what to do from there...

I don't see why not other than the cost. I wouldn't give a dayum if they tested both my sons as long as I didn't have to pay for it.

That story goes to show the child support system is so full of holes. It's in need of an overhaul.

I'm all for it because something needs to be done. Even if it means no more Maury paternity test shows.

@ Smoothie:

I don't think it's appropriate nor respectful for your bio sperm donor to have done what he did, and I certainly don't condone the actions of any male or female that tries to dodge support. Support comes in more than a financial avenue. (Emotionally is a big contributor as well). So I wish he would have been captured in the underground railroad, of sorts).

I have been reading about some of this stuff, and I wonder what will happen

@ Tia: LMAO at As Long as you don't have to pay for it. . .

Eh'....I'm going to have to ride the fence on that one. If I was married and my husband came to me with that 'DNA Test' mumbo jumbo, there would be some furniture moving. But, since we seem to have gone back to the 70's with all the free love, I dont see a problem if the child is out of wedlock AND if the father does not believe he is the sperm donor. If I was a man who happened to have slipped my grip in some loosey goosey I would be damned before I paid to take care of a child that some other negro created, hmph.

I think "big brother" is up to something else if dna test become mandatory. Cuz first they got us with the ssn so we can be tracked ANYWHERE in the world (as Colin Powell) slipped and said on a news show. And then, they'll have our DNA too, on file? Ummmm sounds really "matrix'ish" to me. "Resistance is futile you WILL assimilate" (remember that from the Borgs on Startrek?)

@ The Best Chance:

Surely you jest.

WTF? I know you're biracial, and I'm not trying to get anyone all huffy on here who may have mixed child battles that they have to overcome, but is your mother black?

You either have some serious animosity toward black women, or you have been wronged by one.

The purpose of DNA testing is to ensure that the person having to come up off the dime for child support is, in fact the person that needs to pay for it. Moreover, it also may ease the mind of a man (BLACK OR WHITE)who isn't sure what went down in the heat of passion, no pun intended.

So, why would you have even brought ethnicity into the issue, I respectfully ask?

Booooo....they deleted their comment. I never got to see it...

Boooooooooooooo

Basically, the comment was indicating that many, many, black women (rich and poor), do it all the time, and that many of his friends lay testament to this.

My intent was not to get the person to delete the comment (because I didn't do it), rather, just to get an understanding as to why, the post went from talking about mandatory DNA testing to black women being nothing short of H.A.M's.

@ Chance: Come on back. Wanna hear what you have to say. And that's not a threat. I truly mean this.

@ P: I found the envelope the testing kit came in. At first he wasn't gonna do it, but then one day he did without my knowledge and I just happened to come across the results while putting his laundry away.

Note to XL: If you're tryin to hide shit, don't put it in your dresser drawers when I'm the one putting away your clean clothes. Just a thought...

ANYWAY...

I think if the comment had stayed posted, most if not all of your readers would've been offended by it on some level. Although Chance/Best (WHATEVER) was trying to get across gets muddied by the fact that he uses black men and women as examples in a way that makes him sound as if he has a serious problem with black folks. And don't black folks have it bad enough as it is without all the stereotyping? Call it truth or whatever...ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT THE SAME (nor do they behave as such).

Despite the fact that it was "kinda" cleaned up by mentioning these were "examples" not meant to offend, race didn't have to be mentioned AT ALL - we weren't talkin about race, were we?? Did I miss that part? Maybe I need to go back and re-read the post...

Can we move along already? Time for a new post.

*sigh*

The verbal gymnastics up in here is *BIG YAWN* tiring...lol

Best: Do I look like a mixed person (MGM or FGM)?

Tam says: Umm...if that's your pic on the profile, aren't you sporting a big 'ol tattoo that says Mulatto Pride? Yes you look mixed...

I am bi-racial and have learned to embrace my culture...I suggest you try to do the same. It's not that difficult. Maybe if you smiled...I don't think you're bad looking...and definitely not ugly (if that pic is infact of you)
